“He’s our local rock star!” says a voice in the crowd. She’s holding a copy of a book about radical Islam for which West wrote the foreword. The cover features a flaming Islamic crescent and star behind the Statue of Liberty. She grows gravely serious. “Just protect him, God. Protect him, Lord.”
Sixty years ago Wellington was pure Everglades, part of an undulating expanse of saw grass and cypress that stretched for hundreds of miles down into Florida Bay. In the years since, the land has been drained, filled in, bought and sold and repossessed. In its place, a fever swamp of an entirely different sort has emerged. Allen West, tea party rock star, is its champion
The Miami New-Times says that this letter, from Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) to the Florida chapter of the Council of American-Islamic Relations “might be the dumbest thing ever written on congressional stationery”—which is a serious charge in a legislative body that also includes Joe Barton.
"CFNS claims to have a list of 6,000 members of the Muslim Brotherhood who are living in America and determined to ‘penetrate the United States and eventually erode its institutions, policies, and sense of self through the creation of a multifaceted Fifth Column movement within our borders.’"
Our own Tim Murphy reports on Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) and his crazy jihad on jihad.
We just keep going back to that word: penetrate. Where’s Edward Said when you need him?
Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige. You are the most vile, unprofessional ,and despicable member of the US House of Representatives. If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up…You have proven repeatedly that you are not a Lady, therefore, shall not be afforded due respect from me!
Steadfast and Loyal
Congressman Allen B West (R-FL)
— Today, Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz criticized House Republicans, including neighboring Florida Rep. Allen West, for their nihilistic attitude toward the debt ceiling. We’re not saying West has anger issues. We’re just saying he immediately sat down and wrote this email. (Via Ben Smith.)
If Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) has a successor amid the ranks of freshman Republicans, it may well be Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.). He’s accused President Obama of being a “low-level socialist agitator” who used “Marxist, demagogic rhetoric” to further his agenda in Washington.
We need you to come in and lock shields, and strengthen up the men who are going to fight for you. To let these other women know on the other side—these Planned Parenthood women, the Code Pink women, and all of these women that have been neutering American men and bringing us to the point of this incredible weakness—to let them know what we are not going to have our men become subservient. That’s what we need you to do. Because if you don’t, then the debt will continue to grow.
He also said 33 percent of Planned Parenthood’s cash goes to abortions, then proceeded to give them examples from 300 and The Last Samurai to support his neutering thesis. “That’s a true story,” he added. “That’s historical fiction.”
Here’s a freshman GOP congressman who barely won election, calling “Barack Hussein Obama” a ”a low-level socialist agitator” who shows “third world dictator-like arrogance.”
Here’s the freshman GOP congressman’s reward: nearly half a million bucks raised in three months for his reelection. This sort of speechifying’s made him a top fundraiser. Last election cycle, he amassed $6.5 million, or about five times what the typical congressional candidate raises.
One more interesting fact: His second-largest category of donors was “Republican/conservative.” His biggest category, which was nearly twice as big as No. 2, was “retired.”
