Plains, Georgia, U.S. President JIMMY CARTER takes a forceful swing during a softball game at his alma mater - Plains High School in Plains, Georgia. Catching is James Wooten of The New York Times and the ump is Ralph Nader dressed in a heavy wool suit in the 90+ degree heat of south Georgia. Carter captained his softball team made up of mostly burly US Secret Service agents and played against a team of reporters captained by his brother, Billy Carter.
Still unconfirmed that Carter taunted Nader with an “unsafe at any tweed” joke before swinging for the stands.
