Meet Dhar Mann and Derek Peterson, two silk-suited venture capitalists looking to start the “Wal-Mart of Weed.” They’re the focus of MJ’s new special report, “Pot Goes Wall Street.”
From risky business plans to IPO dreams, the legal marijuana market (which netted $1.3 billion last year in California) resembles the internet bubble’s early days. Where the first tech millionaires had Wired, the new “ganjapreneurs” have Rosebud, a glossy with ads for $230,000 Bentleys.
The older generation of pot impresarios, Mann tells Mother Jones, “are brilliant scientists, but they are not such brilliant businessmen. That’s where Derek and I can come into play, because we understand both sides.”
